Samuel L. Jackson is one of the most popular and high grossing actors in film. After growing up in Tennessee he moved to Atlanta where he was introduced to acting via the drama department. Shortly thereafter he landed a few roles in TV films and performed in his first feature film in 1972. Then in the 1980s, under the tutelage of Morgan Freeman, he played several minor roles in various films. However, Jackson finally made his breakthrough in 1991 with his role in the movie Jungle Fever which garnered him a Supporting Actor award at Cannes. After this role his career blossomed and he has worked on several films per year achieving critical acclaim and record box office sales.
